![]() If the ambient air temperature is below 4.4☌ (40☏) and a jammed condition is detected, the smart module will assume the shutters are frozen and will not illuminate the MIL or set a DTC. If this condition is detected when the ambient air temperature is greater than 4.4☌ (40☏) the MIL will illuminate and a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set. This sensor is located on the coolant passage next to or in the thermostat housing of the cylinder block or cylinder head. If the AGS smart module detects the grill shutters are jammed, it will attempt to free them by cycling the shutters from the open to close positions 3 times. The main Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is known as the primary ECT sensor or ECT sensor 1. If the ambient air temperature is below 4.4☌ (40☏) and a jammed condition is detected, the smart module will assume the shutters are frozen and will not illuminate the MIL or set a DTC." I did try that and it would never get up to temp. No need for any bleeder screw or removing the temp sensor. If the AGS smart module detects the grill shutters are jammed, it will attempt to free them by cycling the shutters from the open to close positions 3 times. Run it with the coolant tank cap off with the throttle bumped up when it hits OP temp just wait for te bubbles to stop in the tank i usually run it about 5 mins after the last bubble just to be sure. ![]() The shutters will cycle to the fully open position and then to the fully closed positions to initialize and learn the hard stops on the grill shutter frame for each key cycle. ![]() To perform the AGS validation, start the engine and observe the grill shutters. The initialization can be used as a quick way to validate the operation of the AGS. The Active Grill Shutters perform an initialization each time the vehicle is started. when it stops thats the themostat housing the ect sensor is screwed into that housing there are two sensor one will have one wire and the other will have two you want the two wire one. "The Active Grill Shutter (AGS) system is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) over a dedicated network Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus. when you open the hood take your right hand and follow the upper rad hose down to the eng. The whole cooling system works as a unit. The sensor circuit can be checked for proper voltage using a voltmeter. ![]() I wouldn't try disabling them though as the ECM monitors them and will set codes/CEL for problems. Fuel injectors (located next to each side of the intake manifold) Camshaft position sensor (CMP) (located at the front of the pass side cylinder head) Oil. The air charge/manifold sensor temperature reading should closely match the engine cool-ant temperature reading on a scan tool if the engine has not been run for over an hour. I've always pondered if tow/haul mode either keeps the shutters open or leaves them open longer to compensate for the additional thermal load. While towing I also have tow/haul mode engaged. Mine also seems to run cooler when towing and pulling hills. ![]()
